- Once you have access, the welcome video outlines the Complete Beginner Course content and suggests ways to use the resources; there are several learning routes you can take.
- If you’ve tried the 101 basics of playing 3-string Cigar Box Guitar (including simple fingerstyle technique with open & barre chords), you should find that you’re well equipped to start playing the easy version of this Country-Rock song.
- As mentioned, beginners can find flatpick technique easier than fingerstyle when starting out. However, it’s fine to start learning fingerstyle songs early in your musical journey, if you’re particularly attracted to this guitar style. Initially, it may be a steeper learning curve, but you’ll be more motivated to nail the tunes if you prefer their sound. Sometimes with practice, taking on a harder challenge can help fast-track playing.
- The Country-Rock series mainly employs chord playing with fingerstyle & strumming technique. At first, some beginners may find open chords more difficult in GDG tuning compared to power chords & riffs. As a result, the Country-Rock series is arguably the most difficult of the 4 final songs from the full Complete Beginner Course.
- The Swung-Blues series from the full course also uses fingerstyle playing. After completing the Easy Country-Rock arrangement, you should find it well within your capabilities to start learning the Swung-Blues song.
- If you’re interested to broaden your playing style, you should also find it comfortable to start learning the the 12-Bar Blues & Classic-Rock songs from the flatpick section.

About the Tutor
- I’ve been playing 6-string guitar for over 40 years, gigging for over 30 years and teaching for over 25 years, which I started before I completed my music degree back in 2000 (Leeds Uni – 1st Class).
- I’ve been a big fan of the blues since I was a kid in the 1980s but more recently, a student introduced me to the world of Cigar Box Guitar. After learning to play and teaching him for a while, I started releasing 3-string tuition videos on the Coda Tuition channel in 2018.
